Any speech abnormalities where the patient has difficulty pronouncing words are treated with speech therapy. Speech refers to the sounds produced by spoken language and oral communication, such as when language is produced by employing the muscles of the tongue, lips, jaw, and vocal tract. Except for extremely young children still learning to talk, a person with a speech impairment has difficulty using certain parts of their lips to generate specific sounds appropriately.
For instance, it's not unusual for a 2-year-old to use the "th" sound instead of the "f" sound, as in "firsty" instead of "thirsty." However, this would be regarded as a speech issue in a 6-year-old child.
Among some speaking issues are:
-Speech apraxia in childhood (rare)
-Stuttering
-Dysarthria
-Myofunctional disorders of the oropharynx
-Sound Disorders in Speech
For your child to express themselves and talk confidently, adequate speech training is essential. We advise scheduling an appointment for your child for speech and language development Australia if you have noticed that they are not meeting certain speech milestones or have difficulty pronouncing words.
